Human
Do you feel it too? This humanity of ours?
I sometimes wonder
If we’re honest with each other
About what it means to be human?
How it feels
How hard it is sometimes?
If we’re lucky
We have our people
The safe ones
Who we can allow to see
Beneath our surface.
But do we ever let each other
See the deepest depths
Of who we are
And what it feels like
And how much it hurts?
I sometimes wonder
Are you lonely too?
Do you live wishing
just one other person
Could truly understand what it is
To be you?
I sometimes wonder
Do you get up the courage
To share your barest bravest truth
Only to hear it drop softly into silence
Unheard
Unacknowledged
Unanswered?
I sometimes wonder
At how words fall short
And we can’t seem to reach
Each others’ truth
Even when we want to
When we try so hard.
I sometimes wonder
Do you wish I could
Really hear you
Really see you
Really know you
Really understand you
Really be with you
Really complete you?
But to be human
Is to be separate
While longing to be connected
Completely
Constantly
Perfectly.
Still though.
Shall we be alone together?
Living for the
Transient
Transcendental
Transporting
Moments of deep connection
That make us feel real
Fleetingly?
I sometimes wonder
At how lucky I am
To be human with you.
